What is a membrane generator?

Generating nitrogen with membrane generators offers numerous advantages in terms of energy consumption, lifecycle, and product properties. These generators require minimal maintenance and are extremely suitable for producing large quantities of clean and dry nitrogen gas (99.60%).

By investing in a membrane generator, you will no longer be dependent on suppliers but will have full control over the supply of nitrogen for your business. This can be a cost-effective option, especially if nitrogen is used regularly. Moreover, Avilo offers you the possibility to rent these membrane generators before making a final purchase. This way, you can experience firsthand how cost-effective it is to produce your own nitrogen instead of purchasing the gas. We understand that it is important to see the benefits of the generator in practice before making a final decision. Therefore, we are happy to enable you to rent the generator and experience the benefits firsthand.

A membrane generator has several remarkable advantages over the PSA generator. The first is the simpler operation of membrane generators, resulting in lower maintenance costs and a less environmentally taxing installation. Additionally, the membrane generator has a faster startup time than the PSA generator and is also quieter in operation. All of this makes the membrane nitrogen generator more suitable for places where many people are working.

How does membrane technology work exactly?

Membrane generators use a simple working principle. The core of the generator is the membrane module, which is filled with small hollow polymer fibers with a diameter of about 10 cm. In the process, dry and clean compressed air enters the generator, with a portion of the air flowing through the fiber structure to the outside of the fibers. This process is known as permeation. During this process, water, oxygen, and some of the argon are discharged via the membrane side of the fibers. The passage of different gases through the membrane occurs at different rates. Water penetrates the membrane very quickly, while oxygen takes a bit more time. On the other hand, argon and nitrogen penetrate quite slowly, leaving nitrogen in the fibers after water and oxygen are removed. Although some of the argon gas also penetrates, it is not completely removed from the airflow, leaving 99.60% nitrogen.

At Avilo, we understand that purchasing a nitrogen generator is a significant investment. Therefore, we not only provide the delivery, installation, and maintenance of the equipment but also take responsibility for all additional matters. This includes piping, certification, and reinspection of the system. Additionally, we are happy to share our knowledge about specific regulations in your market, so you can fully benefit from your membrane generators.
